College Life

Time really do fly.

In a blink of an eye, I am already in my fifth month of college. And the first semester is coming to an end soon.

Well, I really do not have the time to update on my life since I started studying due to heavy workload, tideous homework and countless tests. That basically summarises my life as an A-Level student.

I bet every A-Level students out there know the stress of going through this whole process. Much more advanced than SPM, requiring us to study continuously and think out of the box.

It is only sem 1 and I already feel like dying. The tremendous amount if things we need to absorb on to of the long schooling hours just makes me feel exhausted. Having to compete with so many other clever students and geniuses from all over Malaysia is just so overwhelming. Everything just seems so easy to them and they never fail to produce whereas I have to work my ass off to get a piece of everything.

I really cannot imagine what I will be like during A2. Probably being a mad person. (Hopefully not)

Life here ain't that bad too especially you have friends who work hard and party hard. I am so thankful to have my secondary school friends here with me, studying together. Without them, I would have probably been very lonely and homesick. All thanks to their companion I can have people to listen to my ranting and having late night talks. We also went out quite frequently for food hunting and sometimes just relax our minds and unleash ourselves from all the mental abuse.

The greater part of my college life is probably being able to be good friends with MSG. (Name of my gang just in case you do not know). Thanks to friends in West Malaysia, I got the chance to try the infamous Klang Bak Kut Teh,  been to Johor for the first time ever and having a trip to Melaka together. I will cherish all these wonderful memories till forever.

I think for now I am living quite a balanced life here. Being very stressed out sometimes, and very carefree sometimes. Making every Friday "Pyramid Night" and going out just because it is Firday became my weekly routine. HAHA. And usually thursdays are movie nights because of the cheap tickets.

For now, I really cannot wait till December comes. I really wish to go home and be reunited with my parents and my bed.

RH Hotel Salmon Special

Father's day is actually another good excuse to indulge in good food. It makes your dad happy and everyone will be happy too. LOL

We dined at RH hotel because we were captivated by their 'limited time only' menu which were salmon dishes.

Cheers complementary drinks upon ordering any salmon dish.

Salmon Club Sandwich (RM23)
Thick chunk of salmon with cheese and egg inside. Simply delicious.

Salmon bisque (RM18)
This huge portion of soup was unlike any another I had tried before. The creaminess is just right and although not visible from picture, salmon meat is swimming in pools inside the soup.

Sesame Salmon fillet (RM 31)
The amount of salmon was definitely worth the price. Huge chunk and beautifully seasoned. The taste was really brought out. Come with mashed potato and boiled vegetables.

Kuching Day 4 [9/6/2014]

Hello guys. Sorry for being away for a few days and not updating on Kuching because I was down with a headache.

Now this is day 4 of my trip. Please read my Kuching Day 1 ,  Kuching Day 2 and Kuching Day 3 for  places to find good food in Kuching.

Breakfast on the last day was to this old shop located in the midst of Padungan area. The family was in this business since 1957.

Noodle Descendant is the name of this place where we had their handmade noodles/ kway trow together with their pork soup (with lots of intestine and body organs). I'm not much of a pork eater so this is not what I like. But for pork lovers do give it a try.

I ordered spicy. It seems to be soaked in chilli sauce.

Many parts of pork.

Remember to be early if you want to visit this place though, as by lunch time hungry people will be swarming in and you may have to wait for an hour or so. Do note that this is a very famous old school coffee shop and was featured in the newspaper for numerous times.

After filling our stomachs, we walked to the shop opposite of Noodle Descendant that sells very delicious home made 'Lao po bing' and 'tai yang bing'. I would recommend their lao po bing as I loved it so much the moment I had my first bite. The name of this shop is SIN HIAN CHIA  and be careful when reading the signs because there is a shop which also sells pia like this which has a similar name.

When the clock strikes 10am, everyone knew what that meant. Shopping time of course. On this day, we headed over to Boulevard. The last time we were there the new wing was not opened yet so this time around more shops were opened including Daiso. YES! But the choice of products were quite limited and they did not specify the products clearly like how they do it in KL.

Did not left Boulevard empty-handed as we managed to tapao some Kenny Rogers muffins. Fragrantly baked and look at the golden yellow of the vanilla flavoured ones. I cannot resist them!!! Drools!!!!

We beat the horrendous traffic on that day and made it back to my uncle's apartment at 12.30pm. Just in time for lunch. We headed over to Rock Road Seafood Restaurant for lunch. We opted for a lighter meal and saved some space for pork satay!!!!

Desserts available.

Oysters.

This was the best of them all. Their signature prawn dish with sweet and sour sauce but it somewhat tasted like satay sauce too. Came with their bread which was deep fried. Such a perfect combination. The taste was simply heavenly. And no joke, the sauce was finger licking good. Not a tiny speck will be left.

Not long after, we headed over to Carpenter Street to have their famous Hainan Pork Satay at Lau Ya Keng
We went there as early as 2pm just in case it sold out early, which usually is what happened and we got em!
Because we could not find parking space, so I tapao-ed them home. 40 sticks!

All I could say was the pork was very tender and soft so you would enjoy every bite of it. And the peanut sauce was simply delicious. Gooey enough and have the sufficient taste of peanut. The rice could be ordered separately if you wish to.

The saddest part was when savouring these good food had to come to an end. We packed our things and left for Kuching International Airpot. All the eating did gain me quite a few pounds but I would be back again soon, hungry for more!!!

 Tata!!

Kuching Day 3 [8/6/2014]

Here goes another day of my food adventure. I always felt good being back in this cat city because it made me feel at home.

Read about myKuching Day 1 and Kuching Day 2 if you haven't. And I hope that the posts will help you find good food in Kuching.

On this beautiful morning, we actually wanted to head over to Chong Choon Cafe famous for its Laksa for breakfast but the odds were just not in our favour. The GPS leaded us to the middle of nowhere. Sigh. We were quite persistent and drove round the area for three times but just in vain. Then, we spotted this cafe packed with people so we decided just to follow the crowd. We hopped down to Min Joo Kee Cafe

One thing that you must not miss when you visit this cafe is their 'Kopi'. The coffee was so fragrant and just stimulated taste buds. Coffee lovers be on watch out!!

Kolok Mee. Not bad but I still prefer Choon Hui's over this. However, they special part of this kolok mee is that you will find prawns inside together with fish ball and char siew(pork meat).

Kueh Cap is highly recommended!! You can taste the herbs instead of just plain soy sauce in their broth. Definitely worth a try.

This was their pork leg rice. Saw many people eating this so I just ordered one plate without rice to try. I was glad that it came out delicious.

Sarawak Laksa. This bowl of Laksa tasted a little bit different from the laksa I had before. There was less santan(coconut milk) taste. The gravy was quite rich and spicy enough for me.

Instagram worthy food!!!

I spotted a Char Kuey stall but sadly it was not open on the day I visited.
I did ordered their toast but forgot to snap a picture. The toast cannot beat Choon Hui's one.

After finishing our breakfast, it was still early and shopping malls were not opened yet. HAHA! So we headed back home to Chonglin Plaza and went for a walk to the opposite coffee shop and a China store. The coffee shop opposite, Sin Lian Shin 新聯成 very famous for its Kolok Mee but I sincerely felt that their standard deteriorated a lot in the recent years. I used to favour them you know. But a stall in front of Sin Lian Shin sells very tasty kueh, ranging from Chinese to Malay delicacies. I was lucky enough to randomly spot a very good looking pia which is shown in the picture below. The owner told me this is green tea red bean pia. It looked so good so I needed to give it a try.

Nicely baked. A little bit crispy and the filling was not too sweet. Has the very smooth feeling when eating and you would not be able to stop after a bite.

After lazing around there for a while, we then proceeded on our journey to Plaza Merdeka. Once we reach there, we saw this unfamiliar ice-cream shop and knew we had to taste it.

This is frozen yoghurt on top of waffle biscuits and 3 toppings. The ice-cream was not bad, has the sourness of yoghurt but the Moo Cow frozen yoghurt is still tops my list for best frozen yoghurt.

Hielo Frozen Yoghurt,
Plaza Merdeka

Settled for lunch at the food court in Plaza Merdeka. Loved the name of the food court which was food heaven. There were many choices of food available ranging from Japanese, chicken rice, sizzling, yong taufu etc.

Chicken Terriyaki Bento Set. Chicken Terriyaki was very delicious, on par with local Japanese outlets.

Yong Tauhu. Nothing special to me as all were frozen stuffs, not handmade.

Sizzling beef. This dish was a bit disappointing for me as it was not as tasty as it looks in the picture. Feeling fooled. Now I learnt my lesson to order if it is black pepper beef, if not it will only taste more like plain soy sauce like this one.

Hawaiian pizza which was reasonable and yummy. RM13 for this pizza .

Shopped at Plaza Merdeka till 5 p.m. and then sent my grandma to church which was just round the corner. After that, my parents agreed to my suggestion to high tea. Old Town White Coffee it is!! One of my favourite eateries.

Old Town White Coffee signature frizzy. My all time favourite aside from Starbucks. Although it costs a whopping RM10.50, give it a try as it won't disappoint you. Coffee with whip cream and oreo cookies, perfect combo.

Kaya and butter toast on left and condensed milk toast on the right. I love how their toasts are crispy. I could have these for breakfast any day.

To kill time later, we drove by Kuching's waterfront to have a look as the last time we were there was many years ago.

Love how my Samsung Note 3 was able to capture quite high quality pictures which I was satisfied. Thumbs up!

Taking a selfie and I got caught. My dad captured this without my conscience.

For dinner, we decided on a seafood meal at New Palm Garden Restaurant. They do not server pork and beef.

Brought this beef from home. So tender!!

Their sugarcane drink.

Chicken feet. A bit gross to me.

Snails.

Wild chicken.

Oysters.

Butter prawn.

You can try their mydin umai(a local dish) and fried bitter gourd which is crispy.
2 dishes I tried and loved a lot on my last visit.
